The West hopes to block integration processes in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), said Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia.

He spoke about this in his address at the 58th meeting of the Council of the Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS member-states.

“The West hopes to block integration processes, undermine the foundations of the CIS countries from within, force the peoples [of the CIS] to forget their shared history, turn them against each other, and establish its dominance here,” Bortnikov said.

The Russian FSB director added that for this very reason it is extremely important to objectively assess the situation and jointly protect the interests of the CIS countries, since they are interconnected much more strongly than in the framework of their relations with any external player.

Armenia also is a member in the CIS.
