Russia is a reliable supplier of energy resources, especially for its partners. However, the preferential natural gas price appealing to Yerevan may begin to form on a market basis if Armenia decides to leave the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov reminded at a press briefing Monday.
"We have heard statements from Armenia’s leadership that there is a very, very appealing, more than preferential price for Russian [natural] gas, Russian energy resources. This is really so. Russia remains a reliable and responsible supplier of energy resources to all countries, especially to its closest allies and partners," the Kremlin spokesperson said.
But at the same time, Peskov noted that “such a regime is impossible for participants in other integration associations”—this is “of course, the European Union.”
“Here the price category is already completely different, market. This is very well known to our friends in Yerevan,” he added.
Peskov said “the question of choosing the path of future economic integration” is an “open question,” but recalled that during his visit to Moscow, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan “said that Armenia remains a member of the EAEU in full, but at the same time develops its relations in other directions of its foreign policy as well; in particular, with Europe.”
“And as Pashinyan had explained then, at some point a final decision will have to be made, and this will be done by referendum. Therefore, it will be about the Armenian people,” concluded the press secretary of the Russian leader.
