All the talk about the risks of emigration of Armenian citizens to the European Union (EU) in case of visa liberalization with the EU is groundless. Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia Arpine Sargsyan told this to a press conference Wednesday.

Sargsyan added that in case of visa liberalization, there are no risks of emigration of Armenian nationals to the EU, and, as a rationalization, cited the positive difference in the number of Armenian citizens who left and arrived in Armenia in 2025.

“In 2016, 7,795 citizens of Armenia submitted applications to seek asylum in the European Union, while in 2024—5,130 citizens of Armenia, and in 2025—3,535,” the interior minister noted.

Sargsyan added that there are also readmission agreements, within the framework of which Armenia responds to cases of uncontrolled migration flows from the country.

According to her, in most cases, Armenia responds positively to requests from partners and returns citizens to their homeland.
