We should not allow foreigners to use us against foreigners. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is on vacation and heads the ruling Civil Contract party’s electoral list for the parliamentary election in Armenia on June 7, announced this during an election campaign Tuesday in Hrazdan city, the administrative capital of Kotayk Province.

According to him, speaking about the millennium, Armenia should look ahead, drawing lessons from the past millennium.

“The most important lesson of the past is that we [i.e. Armenia] allow foreigners to use us against foreigners. Ultimately, they throw us aside, leaving [us] defenseless,” Pashinyan noted.

He added that Armenia should use its forces only to protect its own security, state, prosperity, and freedom.

At the same time, Pashinyan disagreed with the opposition’s view that guarantors of peace are needed, since this, in his opinion, means handing Armenia’s fate over to others.

"We [i.e. Armenia] have barely taken our destiny into our own hands, and we cannot let go of that ‘steering wheel’ from my hands," the Armenian PM added.
