The issue of releasing the Armenian prisoners being held in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku can be resolved within a reasonable timeframe. The second president of Armenia and “Armenia” bloc’s candidate for prime minister, Robert Kocharyan, stated this during an election campaign meeting with the residents of Akhuryan village on Tuesday.
“I am sure that this is possible. I am also sure that these [Armenian] authorities are not dealing with the issue. They say, ‘it is better not to talk about this topic, the topic is delicate, we will deal with it in silence.’ What he [i.e. Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan] said yesterday about the [Armenian] people of Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)] indicates that not only are they not dealing with it, but they also want them to stay there so that influential people do not suddenly appear here and unite the people for some purpose. The issue must be dealt with. It is a shame that this topic was not even raised when initialing the [Armenian-Azerbaijani peace] document,” Kocharyan noted, and added that the Armenian authorities should have made it a condition to release at least a few people.
According to him, Azerbaijani president Aliyev has already been satisfied with the “trial” of the Armenian prisoners in Baku.
“This will be part of further negotiations. I am a man of my word. I cannot say in what timeframe, but the issue can be resolved within a reasonable timeframe, I see that possibility,” said the ex-president and PM candidate of Armenia.
