The "Armenia" bloc has issued a statement and appealed to ambassadors and observers accredited in the Republic of Armenia (RA). The statement reads as follows:
"The period leading up to the June 7 [parliamentary] elections [in Armenia] is proceeding with unacceptable tension in the domestic political atmosphere and has clearly gone beyond the scope of political struggle.
In parallel with the public manifestations rejecting the current administration and undoubtedly gaining momentum, the regime is trying to silence political opponents, neutralize citizens' freedom of speech, suppress free expression, and deepen the climate of fear and domestic national hostility in the country.
The unconstitutional and criminally prosecuted behavior and tools adopted by the deepening authoritarian regime make freedom and competitiveness of elections impossible.
The regime pursues only one goal: to achieve reproduction through the impermissible use of force and administrative resources against opposition forces and dissidents.
This goal is served by punitive and unconstitutional actions, which include:
• Criminal pursuit and persecution, institutional repressions.
• Selective justice, blatant abuse of administrative resources.
• Obvious dependence of the judiciary, which does not allow the unconstitutional actions of the authorities to be assessed legally.
• Open and public punitive instructions—including instructions to imprison or punish political opponents—given by the head of the regime to the prosecutor's office and the law enforcement system,.
/On May 17, 2026, an RA citizen hanged himself in a psychiatric hospital, whom law enforcement agencies had isolated the day before on charges of damaging N. P.’s [i.e. PM Nikol Pashinyan’s] [election campaign] propaganda poster/.
• Public intimidation, threats, and calls for reprisals against the public, individual citizens, and leaders of leading opposition forces.
• Non-normative vocabulary, targeted targeting, hate speech, deepening the atmosphere of domestic national division and hostility, creating a climate of fear and intimidation.
• On May 18, live on air, Nikol Pashinyan makes unprecedented threats—which are accompanied by calls for revenge and non-normative swearing—against the three main political opponents, as well as ordinary citizens,.
Unfortunately, the double standards, biased approaches, and untargeted behavior of international organizations deepen the atmosphere of impunity in Armenia, discredit international institutions, undermine faith in democracy—seriously questioning the collective West’s interest in forming a government in Armenia based on truly democratic principles.
We appeal to the embassies accredited and international organizations carrying out observation missions in Armenia, expecting an appropriate attitude and assessment.
We expect an urgent meeting to discuss, present, and assess in more detail the unconstitutional course adopted by the [Armenian] authorities.”
