Armenia's second president and prime minister candidate of the "Armenia" bloc ,Robert Kocharyan, speaking with reporters in Kasakh village, reflected on the rumors actively being spread by members of the authorities—in particular, National Assembly speaker Alen Simonyan—that there is a recording in which Kocharyan allegedly asks Russian President Vladimir Putin to assist him in leaving Armenia.
According to Robert Kocharyan, Simonyan's level and upbringing are known to everyone. Kocharyan reminded that his right to leave Armenia has not been restricted for a long time, and he travels abroad several times a year. Therefore, what is the point of Putin's assistance?
Kocharyan said that such a conversation with Putin never happened, and the aforesaid recording could have been created using artificial intelligence. “The Russian president never speaks openly with anyone.”
Regarding Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan’s statements about the authenticity of the recording, Kocharyan scoffed, noting that Pashinyan is an “expert” in everything.
When asked what explains Pashinyan’s change in rhetoric on the Russian topic, Kocharyan recalled his behavior when attacks are followed by statements like “there are no problems in relations.”
Robert Kocharyan suggested that Nikol Pashinyan is either carrying out someone's orders or trying to please people. “You want me to explain some absurd situations,” Kocharyan noted.
Nevertheless, he is sure that such behavior can cause big problems for Armenia; he suggested imagining what consequences such rhetoric would have toward the US. Kocharyan reminded that Russia is a huge country with great ambitions, and building relations in such a style is unacceptable.
In general, Robert Kocharyan considers Nikol Pashinyan and his vocabulary illiterate and underdeveloped, adding that it is impossible to compete with him in this regard.
