A “suspected agent linked to Iran” planned an assassination attempt on Ivanka Trump in retaliation for the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in the United States in 2020, The New York Post reports.
Mohammad Baker Saad Dawood al-Saadi, a 32-year-old Iraqi citizen, allegedly “made a promise” to kill the daughter of U.S. President Donald Trump and had a plan of her home in Florida, the newspaper reports, citing sources.
According to the newspaper, al-Saadi allegedly targeted the president’s family in response to the U.S. drone strike on Baghdad that killed Soleimani.
Former deputy military attaché of the Iraqi embassy in Washington Entifadh Kanbar reportedly told the newspaper that al-Saadi spoke about killing Ivanka Trump after Soleimani’s death.
The article also says that al-Saadi posted a map of the area in Florida where Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner own a home, as well as a threat in Arabic.
Al-Saadi was detained in Turkey on May 15 and extradited to the United States, where he is accused of involvement in 18 attacks and attempted terrorist acts in Europe and the United States.
The report described him as an alleged militant of both Kataib Hezbollah and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and said he was linked to attacks on American and Jewish targets, including incidents in Amsterdam, London, Toronto, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
The newspaper also reported that al-Saadi allegedly used a religious travel agency as cover for international trips and for establishing ties with militant cells.
