Qatar calls for respecting freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that the closure of this waterway is a gross violation of international law, stated Majed Mohammed Al-Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Qatar.

“In accordance with the norms of international law, Qatar has the right to safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz,” Al-Ansari said during a press conference.

According to him, no country, including Iran, can impede the movement of ships or close the strait.

The Qatari MFA spokesperson also noted that contacts are currently being held at various levels to restore stability and ensure freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf.

Al-Ansari added, however, that there is no alternative to a diplomatic solution to the situation. He stressed that Doha fully supports Pakistan’s efforts to mediate between the US and Iran.

Supporting mediation efforts is now the cornerstone of Doha’s policy, and Qatar supports them, the MFA spokesperson concluded.
