China firmly opposes the US plans to deploy intermediate-range Typhoon missile systems in Japan, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a press briefing.

“China firmly opposes the US deployment of intermediate-range missile systems in Asian countries,” Guo said, calling the Typhoon missile system a “strategic offensive weapon.”

According to the Chinese MFA spokesperson, such actions harm the legitimate security interests of other countries, intensify military confrontation, and increase the risks of an arms race.

The Chinese MFA stressed that Tokyo’s willingness to deploy these systems indicates an acceleration of Japan’s remilitarization and preparation for a “protracted war.” China's MFA spokesperson added that this is a challenge to the post-war international order and threatens to provoke new instability in the region. Also, Beijing called on Washington and Tokyo to abandon such plans.
