Barcelona forward Roony Bardghji has torn his ACL, the Spanish champions confirmed Tuesday, scuppering plans for him to be transferred this summer.
Bardghji, 20, suffered the injury in his right knee in training on Monday and tests confirmed he needs surgery in the coming days, leaving him set for months on the sidelines.
It is the second time he has sustained the injury having previously torn the ACL in the same knee while still a Copenhagen player in 2024.
It rules out the possibility of the Sweden international leaving Barça before the transfer window closes on Sept. 1.
Coach Hansi Flick had last week communicated to Bardghji that he should look for a new club this summer as minutes would be hard to come by at Barça in the upcoming campaign.
As a result, Bardghji was left out of the squad for last Saturday's friendlies against Nottingham Forest and Udinese to avoid him getting injured before moving on.
However, in a cruel twist of fate, the winger then got injured in training on Monday.

Barça had fielded enquiries about Bardghji's availability from across Europe, including from the Premier League, and talks were expected to accelerate following Flick's conversation with the player.
Bardghji, who joined Barça in a deal worth around €2m from Copenhagen last summer, made 28 appearances for the club last season, scoring two goals.
However, the majority of his outings were off the bench and his minutes were expected to be further reduced in the upcoming campaign following the signings of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.
